Carl William Blegen (Janu – Aug ) was an American archaeologist who worked on the site of Pylos in Greece and Troy in modern-day directed the University of Cincinnati excavations of the mound of Hisarlik, the site of Troy, from to The name Pylos appears on more than fifty tablets, and there can be no doubt that this was the Messenian abode of the Nestor of Greek tradition.
